Dalby: toddler saved from drowning

Posted on 12-Jan-2012

The Sunshine Coast's AGL Action Rescue Helicopter has airlifted a three year old boy who nearly drowned at the Dalby Pool.

The child was found under water at the shallow end of the pool and was resuscitated at the scene by an off duty lifesaver.   The boy had had been swimming with his family.

The incident happened yesterday afternoon (Wednesday).  The AGL Action Rescue Helicopter transported a specialist paediatric doctor and nurse to the Dalby Hospital, the boy was then airlifted to the Mater Children's Hospital in a stable condition.

The helicopter's flight paramedic Damien Storeywood said the child was very lucky.  "Immediate CPR initiated by the lifesaver saved his life basically, and an immediate call to triple 0.  We call it the chain of survival."

"These things happen in a split second so you have to always watch your kids around water," he said.
