Meandu Mine: safety training exercise
Posted on 10-Jan-2012

The AGL Action Rescue helicopter headed out to Meandu mine near Nanango recently to participate in a training exercise with Thiess' on site safety team. It's part of the Service's commitment to working with the community as Brent Chamberlain, Chief Pilot explained:
“These training exercises are invaluable in giving our crews experience in operating in the potentially challenging environment of a mining operation. It means that if we’re tasked in an emergency we know what to expect – and they do too. We are able to identify safe landing sites, and the Thiess safety team get hands on experience of how they might assist us in conducting a safe retrieval in an emergency.
“The employees of Thiess are as much a part of our community as the motorists, sailors and climbers who we rescue every day. Exercises like this give us exposure and recognition which is crucial for a service which relies on fundraising to keep flying."
All costs associated with the exercise were met by Theiss
