Moreton Island: Action Rescue Helicopter joins search

Posted on 14-Nov-2011

The AGL Action Rescue Helicopter was called from the Maroochydore base at 2.15 today (Monday) to look for three men missing following a boat trip off Moreton Island.   The crew joined SES and parks and wildlife officers in the search.   Pilot Brent Chamberlain started his search at an altitude of 500 feet along the north coast of Moreton Island looking for signs of the boat or the missing people.   The search was called off shortly afterwards when all three men were reported to have arrived back safely at their  campsite on the island.  The boat was undamaged nearby.  Two of the men were reported to have walked 14 kilometres in the heat of the day to get back to their accommodation at Bulwer campground.   The AGL Action Rescue Helicopter landed at Bulwer, where the Flight Doctor and Paramedic checked the men over and treated them for dehydration and sunburn.
